EPIC Collaborations: Work-Based Learning That Moves the Needle
Washington, DC —
At the heart of EPIC lies a powerful idea: students should not just learn about the workplace — they should work in it. At the 2025 EPIC Summer Convening, learners, educators, and employers came together to showcase just how transformative employer‑sponsored challenges can be.
Teams from across the country addressed real business problems — from talent recruitment strategies at AT&T, to innovative practices in regenerative farming, to strengthening community health programs. In Michigan, our own Oakland Schools Technical Campuses (OSTC) collaborated with local businesses to create campus tour initiatives that bring students and employers face to face—building lasting connections.
Beyond the projects themselves, EPIC also highlighted the lasting impact on students. Some leveraged their challenge experience for college essays and internships; others parlayed skills and confidence into entrepreneurial ventures.
By harnessing the power of collaboration — between schools, employers, and communities — EPIC is turning work-based learning from an ideal into a reality. The future belongs to learners who can solve, create, and connect.
